ABOUT OUR FARM:

We consider our farming operation as a  family hobby garden grown commercial. Our home garden started as a half acre plot in 1976 on 18 acres situated along Route 192, just 3 miles east of Centre Hall,  PA. At that time our main purpose of providing fresh food for our own use. As with many gardeners, we wanted to experience new varieties and widen our boundaries into different fruits & vegetables.  Today our garden extends to 8 acres and includes a small orchard. The  fruits that we are growing include  apple,  pear, sweet cherry, plum, blueberry, red raspberry, blackberry,  grape,  strawberry and  black currant. Vegetable varieties which we grow change from year to year as new varieties enter the seed catalogs. But our customers keep asking for that tomato or sweet corn variety that we grew last year so a few of those  "Old  Reliables"  keep our variety list long.

We participate two local farmer's markets. In addition to the Downtown State College Farmer's Market on Locust Lane , we can be found at the Bellefonte Farmer's Market  in front of the county courthouse.

Although this page may tweak your interest in us we  encourage you to visit our own website at    www.moserproduce.com   to get information not found here and view a few pictures of our garden. At our home web page we expand on topics presented here in 10 different areas (click on any of them to see more):

Fresh produce is paramount to our small family business. We will take orders any crop in advance or call (or email) you when a crop is ripening. Our prices are favorable. Please be in touch.

*a   Fall apple varieties include: Red & Yellow Delicious, Northern Spy, Rome Beauty, MacIntosh, Idared, Granny Smith, Smokehouse,.Crispin (Mutsu), Red Fuji, Jonathan, Jonagold, Enterprise, Staymen-Winesap,  and Gala.

*b  Bean types include green, yellow, purple, and Roma (flat Italian) string beans. Green string beans will be available a week or two before other types only because we grow a good early variety.

*bb  Blueberry varieties vary in harvest dates (beginning in July), size and flavor. Presently we pick all types when ripened and cannot separate.  We may be offering separately as bushes grow.

*c  Sweet corn types include yellow, white, and bicolor. Within these colors we offer either sugar enhanced or supersweet varieties.

*cu  Cucumbers are one crop grown in the high tunnel (Sweet Success) and therefore available in June. Later in August we pick  other burpless salad types and pickling types.

*g  Salad greens include: lettuce (different types of leaf & bibb), tat soi, mutsu, mizuna, beet tops and other greens. Spinach, chards and herbs are listed separately.

*h   Herbs are usually seasonal. In early summer we'll cut oregano, chives, parsley, mint and sorrel. In July we add basil, dill and cilantro. Basil will stop in early  to mid September. Others will last through October.

*m  Melons include cantaloupe, crenshaw melons, watermelons & honeydew melons. We grow red & yellow flesh watermelons.

*op  Ornamental pepper plants are potted miniature plants with edible fruits (all of our varieties produce hot peppers).

*p   Peas are of to main types, podding and edible pod. Of podding types we offer a few different varieties. Edible pod types: snow, sugar snap, and Oregon giant (a large tenderpod variety) are available from late June thru July.

*po  Potatoes are either Red, white or yellow skinned types, yellow skinned (Yukon Gold) are yellow fleshed.

*ph  Hot pepper types include: Hungarian wax, Anaheim, Jalapeno, Cherry, Pablano, Cayenne, Serano, Chili, Caribbean red, and Habanero. Some of the newer hybrids we will be growing are variations of these.

*ps  Sweet pepper  varieties include bell, banana and apple. Of the bells we offer many varieties of  green, red, yellow, purple, and orange flesh types ranging in size and shape from small blocky to super large elongated.

*r  Red raspberries are offered over an extended season starting early July for a number of reasons. First , there are two categories: summer bearing & everbearing (primocane). Our  summer bearers (Tulameen, Lantham  Lauren & Taylor) provide an early crop from early July into Aug. The primocane types (Autumn Bliss, Caroline, Josaphine & Heratige) start producing in mid Aug. and produce through October. That leads to reason #2, since Sept. frost will stop harvest abruptly.  We erect a canopy frame over part of our berry crop and cover with Remay fabric. To date this practice has allowed picking through October. I know many of you who have seen these beautiful berries think they are imported from regions south. To see pictures please go to our web site,  feature crop page.

*rb  Red beets are of different varieties but of two distinct types: round or oblong (Burpee's Cylindra).

*s  Strawberries are picked and sold by variety, mainly because of customer preferences. You can select according to size, shape, flavor, firmness and freezing quality attributes, among others.  Our varieties and major attributes include: Northeaster: early; good fresh eating & freezing; large, firm berry.  Primetime: midseason; mild, pleasant aroma & flavor, Large attractive bright scarlet fruits. Honeoye: midearly with excellent desert and freezing qualities. Darselect: midseason, large berry with outstanding flavor, similar to Early Glow.

*sq  Squash types include: zucchini, cucuzzi (aka Italian edible gourd , white flowered squash), spaghetti squash, stripetti, delacata, acorn, butternut, buttercup, sweet meat (hubbard variety). Some of these are summer types and  will be available in early Aug.; winter squash types  & pumpkins are offered from early Sept. thru early Nov.

*t  Tomatoes vary considerably in types offered and harvest dates. We grow a high tunnel crop for earlier harvest in June. By July cherry tomatoes and small fruited types (4th of July, Juliet and Mt. Spring) are ripening. August thru frost we usually pick  8 to 10 regular season varieties.
